What Thanksgiving Means to Me

Alright so, in the spirit of the season, I bring to you the things that make me thankful for Thanksgiving and what I think of when the holiday is upon us. Most of the people that read this blog know that I am a vegetarian, so I bring you my idea of a turkey in the center of the table:
And no, don't worry, I won't bust out any Tofurky. I really actually hate tofu altogether, but I give it props for being so inventive (and popular).
My all time favorite dishes are green bean casserole and macaroni and cheese. And mashed potatoes but that's a total given. I especially love that on Thanksgiving, we splurge and have "real" mashed potatoes. My sister, makes a killer green bean casserole, and I can never get enough of those crunchy onions. And my mom, oh my sweet mom, who makes several vegetarian dishes for my sister and I, she makes awesome homemade macaroni and cheese. It's heaven.
I'm not much of a pie person, in fact, I just don't eat pie altogether. But I have to say Thanksgiving just wouldn't be the same without the smell of pumpkin pie baking in the oven.
Now, when most of you think of champagne, you probably imagine the sparkling wine variety, after all, that's what champagne is. But not me, not for Thanksgiving.

I'm all about the cherry 7 Up. When I was little, we would get together with my aunts and uncles and cousins from my mom's side of the family. The adults, they did imbibe real champagne. But they didn't want the kids to feel left out, so my mom always had pink (cherry) 7 Up on hand. We even would drink it out of fancy plastic cups. That way it looked as if we were drinking pink champagne, but we weren't and we wouldn't break a glass. However, I do have to point out that those cups aren't really that practical. Imagine 10 or so kids, most under the age of 14, sipping soda out of a plastic cup designed to look like a margarita or a martini glass. First of all, there were many spills, and secondly, you got like 4 sips out of it before it had to be refilled. But still, it was the awesome thought that counts.

And of course, it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the constant background noise of football on the television all.day.long. Now that I'm an adult (gulp) I will probably watch the parade and the dog show following it, but as far as I can remember (before children) I slept in on Thanksgiving day.

And last but not least, did I ever tell you about the time when a bunch of my cousins, my sister and I were very bored one Thanksgiving, so we decided to go toilet paper a house? I didn't think so. See, our family, they are a little different at times. I believe that was the time that almost all of our parents decided they wanted to drive to Wendover right there and then. The kids (mostly older) were hanging out together, eating a pie each, and we thought that would be a great idea, seeing as though some of the littler kids (me) had not ever done it before. There is some more crazy information about that little stunt, but it's a total family inside joke.
Also, one of my favorite years is when all the cousins decided to go see Beavis and Butthead Do America after dinner. That was classic.

Hope your Thanksgiving is fun, safe, yummy and for good time's sake, creative.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
